Ignace Henri Jean Théodore Fantin-Latour was born in Grenoble France on January 14th, 1836. In 1854, he moved to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he befriended the American expatriate James Abbott McNeill Whistler, who sold many of his still-life paintings in England.
Fantin-Latour died on August 25, 1904 of lyme disease.
